A single-domain SSL certificate is the standard certificate type that secures one domain. The certificate is valid only for the domain it is issued for; it cannot be used on other domains or on other subdomains.
If you have a single website, it is the most economical solution. It is available with domain validation (DV), organization validation (OV) and extended validation (EV); encryption strength is the same for all three. If you have several subdomains, a Wildcard certificate is a better fit; if you have several different domains, a multi-domain certificate is.
DATASSL offers 22 single-domain SSL products; annual prices start at $6.00. Below are the best-priced DV, OV and EV options of each brand (per year, excl. VAT).
| Brand | DV | OV | EV |
|---|---|---|---|
| GoGetSSL | GoGetSSL Domain SSL$6.00 | GoGetSSL BusinessTrust$90.00 | GoGetSSL BusinessTrust EV$140.00 |

Ordering and installation take four steps; you carry out all of them from your customer panel.
Choose a DV product for a personal site or blog, OV for a corporate site, or EV for the most extensive organization validation.
Generate a CSR for your domain on your server and paste it into the panel. Your private key stays on your server.
Validate your control of the domain by email, DNS record or file. For OV and EV, the organization is validated as well.
Once the certificate has been issued, you download it from the panel and install it on your server; installation guides are in the Knowledge Base.
| Single-domain SSL | Wildcard SSL | Multi-domain (SAN) SSL | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coverage | One domain | All first-level subdomains of a domain | The different domains listed in the certificate |
| New subdomain | Requires a new certificate | Covered automatically | Must be added to the certificate |
| Different domains | Not covered | Not covered | Covered |
| Validation types | DV, OV, EV | DV, OV | DV, OV, EV |
| Best for | A single site | Many subdomains | Several different sites |
If you only need to secure one domain, it is the most economical option.
A DV single-domain certificate is enough to remove the "Not secure" warning.
An OV single-domain certificate shows your company name in the certificate details.
Encrypts payment and account pages with one certificate; OV or EV can be chosen for organization identity.
At DATASSL, single-domain SSL certificates start at $6.00 per year (excl. VAT). The lowest-priced DV option is GoGetSSL Domain SSL ($6.00). OV options start at $41.00. EV options start at $140.00.
Most products cover the domain both with and without www. Coverage can vary from product to product, so check the details on the product page.
No. The certificate is valid only for the domain it is issued for; it does not cover subdomains such as mail.example.com or panel.example.com. That requires a Wildcard or multi-domain certificate.
Yes. You can order the certificate directly for the subdomain; in that case the certificate secures only that subdomain.
For blogs and personal sites, domain-validated DV is enough. Choose OV if you want your organization name to appear in the certificate, or EV if you want the most extensive organization validation. Encryption strength is the same for all three.
Yes. The lowest-priced single-domain EV product is GoGetSSL BusinessTrust EV at $140.00 per year (excl. VAT). With an EV certificate, your organization undergoes the most extensive review.
The same certificate can be installed on multiple servers that serve the same domain (e.g. servers behind a load balancer). Server license terms can vary from product to product, so check the product page.
A domain cannot be added to a single-domain certificate afterwards. You either buy a separate certificate for the new domain or choose a multi-domain (SAN) certificate from the start.
