What is a DV SSL certificate?

A DV (Domain Validation) SSL certificate only validates that the domain is under your control. No organization details are reviewed and no documents are requested, which makes it the fastest-issued and lowest-priced type of SSL certificate.

Encryption strength is the same as with OV and EV certificates: the connection between the visitor and the site is encrypted in the same way and the browser shows the same padlock. The difference is that the certificate does not contain an organization name. DV is sufficient for blogs, personal sites, brochure sites and small projects.

How to get a DV SSL certificate: domain validation methods

The only validation step for a DV certificate is showing that the domain is under your control. You choose one of three methods yourself in your panel.

Generate a CSR

Generate a CSR (certificate signing request) on your server and paste it into the panel. Your private key stays on your server.

Email validation

You approve the link sent to one of the administrative addresses of your domain (admin@, administrator@, webmaster@, hostmaster@, postmaster@).

DNS record validation

You add the record you are given to your domain's DNS. Validation completes automatically once the record is visible.

File validation

You upload the validation file you are given to the specified address on your site. This method cannot be used for Wildcard certificates.

Once validation is complete, the certificate is usually issued within a few minutes and can be downloaded from your panel.
